Trapper Education

A trapper education course teaches participants how to responsibly trap furbearing animals and provides a foundation of knowledge upon which to build. Topics in the 10 hour course include proper trapping equipment and use, responsible trap setting, the importance of good wildlife management practices, and habits and traits of furbearers. Students must pass a written exam. All Trapping Educations Courses are homestudy courses. Homestudy requires attendance at all sessions as well as study at home, in order to receive your certificate.

Total = 10 Hours

  • Fur Management = 1 Hour
  • Tools of the trade = 2 Hours
  • Trap Setting = 1 Hour
  • Handling Animals = 1 Hour
  • Laws and Landowner Relations = 2 Hours
  • Field Exercise = 2 Hours
  • Exam = 1 Hour

This Course will be a complete Trapping Safety Course in Jackman, Maine.  The First Night will be at Sky Lodge Conference Center Across from Sky Lodge on July 29, 2020 from 5:30pm – 9pm.  You will have home work to do between that first night and the final day of which is Sunday, August 9, 2020 from 8am –  4pm to do hands on and finish the course as well as take the written test.  Please DO NOT sign up if you do not intend to complete as seats are limited.

The cost of the class is $10.00 per student and will go to the Sky Lodge for the facilities; the fee is do the first night of class.  Please be on time and bring the fee, and a pencil, pen, and notepaper for notes.   The Final day you must be a lunch for your meal and your home work completed, as well as dressing for the weather and being outdoors, bring bug spray and a water bottle to stay hydrated.
